Ivry watch for invasive species

Calling Ivry citizen scientists!

As many of you know, our lakes are threatened by invasive plants. Two major aquatic plants are blue-green algae and milfoil. The Environment Committee of the AALM is coordinating an aquatic invasive species watch this summer. Sightings will be reported by the EC to the Réseau de surveillance volontaire des lacs (RSVL) or the Conseil régional de l’Environnement (CRE) des Laurentides for follow-up.

The AALM Environment Committee is asking all Ivry residents to be on the lookout for these species. We provide images below to inform on how to identify them.

If you see any algae blooms or milfoil, please:

  1. note the place, date, and time of day

  2. if possible, take a photo

  3. report these by email to info@aalm.ca

Its feather-like green leaves are arranged in whorls around the stem in groups of four or five. The leaves have 12 or more thread-like segments, and tiny pinkish flowers occur on reddish spikes that stand several inches above the water. The plant blooms in late July and early August.
